BLACK PRIDE 2021!

“There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.”

– Margaret J. Wheatley (Author, Community Organizer)

As summer approaches, so does the season for Black Pride events throughout the country. Last year, many of the events were either cancelled or forced to be held virtually – Zoom, Zoom and more Zoom.  Given the ever evolving COVID conditions, Pride organizers are challenged to come up with the most effective means to hold these much needed events.

While the question of relevancy for Prides, especially Black Prides continues to come up, we who know the significance recognize their importance to building community.  Prides have a way of bringing all the alphabets (LGBGTQ+) together in a way that celebrates a common struggle for equality.

I convened a somewhat impromptu, virtual roundtable of Black Pride organizers in this issue that reinforced my appreciation for the power of Prides to bring us all together. Yes, we continue to need Black Prides as a vehicle to celebrate this uniquely special intersectional space we hold as Black, same-gender-loving people. Happy Black Pride!

Together we can make a difference,
