A BRAND NEW DAY!

You never have to ask anyone’s permission to lead, just lead

 Kamala Harris

United States Vice President

This February’s Black History Month takes on special significance this year as Kamala Harris takes her seat as the newly elected Vice President for the United States. Harris brings a particularly unique Black life experience to the White House. A graduate of Howard University (HU), a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority – like my sister Sharon, and a member of The Links, an organization of professional Black women, Vice President Harris is truly a “Sista.”

I’m encouraged by the possibilities of what her authentic Black life experience means for the future of this country. What will it mean to have a “Sista” in the room when decisions are being made about the future of the Free World. Will she be mindful of the impact her decisions have on other Black people like her fellow alumni, sorority sisters and fraternity brothers? As she advises President Biden on plans to address the COVID-19 virus, the lives of her Black friends and family should be at the center of her thoughts. The lives of Black folks should always be present as she leads. That’s Black History in the making.

As America continues to reckon with race, I for one will be watching to see what comes out of this new administration. My heart tells me that it may truly be A BRAND NEW DAY!

Together, we can make a difference!
